To be or not to be "Organic" The decision to go Totally "DIY" with beauty and hygiene products?

Over the past few years I developed an interests in studying the impacts of the chemicals used within many of the beauty products as well as other hygiene products many of them promoting the positive effects from using their product line only to find out the ingredients within a good number of them are not only counter productive to what they are being marketed for, many of the ingredients  are harmful to our health.  I have attempted to avoid many of those products switching to organic and natural products but that has its own list of issues; especially when considering the majority of these "Organic, pure and all Natural" products still contain many harmful ingredients, and sell anywhere from 2 to 10 times the amount or non organic products. I started thinking if this product can still be labelled "organic" while containing these harmful ingredients then what is the point of buying them, spending the additional money only to find that many of these health promoting companies/product lines are no better for us, then the products that do not contain these labels.

I will say there are some really great products available which are free of many of the harmful chemicals and toxins found in many beauty products but one still has to consider the effectiveness of the product line, its ability to meet consumers needs as well as the diversity of consumers, and its impact on the family or individuals budget. Whether one'e decision to go organic or use more consumer conscience products we must ask is this decision based on health concerns, personal beliefs or both. The next struggle in finding the right product is finding the "right" one, ensuring it is meeting the consumers needs, especially if the decision to use such products was due to a health concern or medical issue. Personal beliefs are no less important as many people decide to use "green" products to lessen the impact on the environment, using products sold in recyclable containers or refillable items that create less waste. Whatever the motivation it can be a lengthy process of finding the correct product as there is so much research one can do, as many times one must do "trial and error" with the purchasing of these product and hope they find the correct product before they have spent a fortune.

This is where I think we as consumers need to focus and ask ourselves would it be more beneficial to create my own product line, designing items that fit my personal needs in addition to the needs of my family or should I continue to rely on manufactures to create healthy products for me and my family regardless to the additional costs associated with many of these organic and pure product lines?

This is where my journey begins as I take the steps to determine if going "totally" DIY or homemade is feasible. I know some about soap making from what I have read online or watched in a video but have never made soap. I know even less about lotions and creams. I have a very strong desire to learn, but have little to no budget but regardless to the set backs I am going to complete this journey or quest as this desire does not seem to leave me. I do not know how many of you have also considered making your  own products but hopefully my blog which will document the process will help you in your decision as well.
I will do my best to record what I find, what works well in addition to any mishaps or mistakes I encounter or inflict upon myself. Let me do the trail and error for you. As I learn and discover new things feel free to communicate with me if you have a question or want more information as my goal is not only to fins the most effective method for DIY but to save money and help others who may also be facing some of the same challenges I am.

Hopefully I will be able to send some of the items I do make to people who are interested, as I would like to share in my accomplishments. I would be willing to send them at no cost to any reader or subscriber; if willing to cover the shipping associated with sending the items.

Well I am going to do a little research and see what I can find online regarding soap making, anything I find interesting I will post, with the references and links.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by and read my blog, hopefully you will come back and see how I am doing.
